Good News Roundup – 28th June 2024

Hello, and welcome to the round up of good news stories for this week.

At one point, the global population of the wild Iberian Lynx was put at just 62, but recent numbers have found conservation efforts to save the big cat are proving successful, with numbers now believed to be around 2000.

The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) this week updated its threatened species list, confirming the population has rebounded.

Next time you think you’re too old to be playing recreational sport, think of 76-year-old Neil Rainbow, who has been confirmed as the oldest person still playing senior AFL in Australia.

Known as Rainbow to his teammates, Neil is playing for Bega-Tathra in the AFL Sapphire Coast Competition on the NSW Far South Coast, with one of his teammates describing him as the GOAT (greatest of all time).

Walkers rejoice!

There’s now even more reason to get your walking shoes on, with a study out of Macquarie University’s Spinal Pain Research Group finding that regular walking can significantly reduce the recurrence of low back pain in adults.

And finally, from the Good News Network this week, the story you didn’t realise you needed – rats driving tiny cars.

A couple in Canada adopted two rats – Kronk and Kuzko – from a local animal shelter, and after learning rats are actually quite intelligent, gave the rodents little electric cars to learn to drive, and they have!

You can find videos of Kronk and Kuzko on Instagram, or read more about it here – https://www.goodnewsnetwork.org/pet-rats-driving-tiny-cars-light-up-instagram-after-canadian-couples-adoption/
