Hello, and welcome to the Good News Roundup for September 9, 2024.
It’s the story that made parents shudder around the world, but the young boy who accidentally broke a 3,500-year-old jar has been invited back to the museum where it happened.
Four-year-old Ariel Geller broke a Bronze Age jar at the Hecht Museum in Israel while visiting with his parents and siblings.
While Mum says she was embarrassed, the Museum have since welcomed the family back, with curators and experts now working to restore the jar.
A pair of peregrine falcons are thumbing their beaks to authority, returning to a Perth apartment balcony to breed again this year, despite attempts by management to keep them away.
The birds of prey have been nesting on a suburban balcony in lieu of any nearby cliff faces for the past eight years, but complaints from some residents about the noise and mess prompted building managers to remove the garden pot they’d been nesting in.
But rather than be deterred, the birds have returned again this year, finding another pot on another balcony in the building and laying at least one egg. Stay tuned for peregrine chick updates! https://www.sbs.com.au/news/article/sticky-beaks-birds-of-prey-defy-strata-company-to-raise-family/k8h032a6d?fbclid=IwY2xjawFHlwJleHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHXE-M69FPMZFEUN4y2vifm17iApioR-Uc3RcZijLLOtNNsewnFzxHME1-g_aem_Vd9PBvkkCq0OCgmGoggISQ
Some of us might think a glass of champagne and a piece of cake might be a nice way to mark our 80th birthday, but not Alan Cotterill, who is planning on marking the occasion by running a marathon.
The retired GP has signed up for the Sydney Marathon this weekend (Sept 15) after thinking of ways to mark the occasion.
The birthday boy isn’t a stranger to running, however, running from Junee to Wagga Wagga in New South Wales back in 1984, and he’s been a regular ‘Park-Runner’ for the past decade.

And finally, they’re the brick that kids and adults alike can’t get enough of, and now LEGO has revealed plans to become more environmentally friendly.
The toymaker says it wants to make half the plastic in its bricks made from renewable or recycled material within the next two years, and switch entirely by 2032.
The company also revealed plans to expand its brick takeback program, although no word yet on when it might be available in Australia.
