New Use for Kids Toys – Stop Wasteful Landfill

An innovative use has been found for old plastic toys headed for the tip.

Vanessa Yuan and Joris Vanbrielhave started ecoBirdy, to reduce plastic waste and turn old toys into furniture – choosing toys because many are made of plastic.

They collect toys from schools and recycling centres, then pre-sort them to remove old
batteries.

The toys are then shredded and washed before being sorted according to material and colour.

The pair makes a special secret mix to hold the pieces together, and the mixture goes into a mould before cooling and quality control.

Pricing for the recycled toy furniture starts at $148.
