Regional Police Adopt Cat to Get Public Attention for Crimes
A cat has been chosen as the unofficial mascot for police in the remote West Australian town of Newman, after appearing to get more attention from the public on social media.
Dubbed “PC Bandit” the rescue cat is often found sleeping around the office or looking for scratches from officers.
Bandit has his own social media account – check it out – which police use to post information and appeals for information.
Poor Farmer Finds $70,000 in Diamonds
An Indian farmer has had his fortunes change in an instant, uncovering two large diamonds in his fields.
Ramnaresh Dubey had been looking for diamonds on his property in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh for around six months when he made the discovery – one of the diamonds is a massive 8.30 carats.
‘Dinosaur Highway’ uncovered in the UK
Palaeontologists have uncovered the UK’s largest dinosaur trackway dating back 166 million years.
The site in Oxfordshire features over 150 metres of tracks from both herbivorous Sauropods and the carnivorous Megalosaurus.
The discovery offers a rare glimpse into the Jurassic “dinosaur highway” of the Middle Jurassic Period.
Tracking Down the World’s Sports Statues
A researcher in the UK is on a mission to document every sports statue in the world.
Chris Stride, a statistician and senior lecturer at the University of Sheffield has been working for close to 15 years to catalogue thousands of statues in a bid to preserve sporting history and offer some insight into how sporting heroes are honoured.
One of the striking disparities he has uncovered is the lack of statues honoring female athletes, revealing there are more statues of English jockey Lester Piggott in the UK than there are of sporting women.
